Hardys Bay

One of our favourite locations, but a bit of a challenge to get to for first-timers or deep keeled yachts.Be mindful of the tides and navigational markers, particularly if your boat draws less than 2m.. Hardys Bay is a pleasant and convenient place to stay with lots of choice of onshore activities. It is reasonably sheltered from all but the strong westerly.

HardysBay.JPGOver recent years the Hardys Bay - Wagstaff area has boomed (some might say yuppified) and there are good facilities at the Bay. Two restaurants, as well as "The Old Killcare Store" which serves excellent coffee and casual meals through the day. The Liquor Store also acts as newsagent and general store. The Killcare Marina offers repairs and basic spares.

Killcare ocean beach is only a few minutes walk away, over the hill. The Hardys Bay foreshore is friendly to pets, including doggy bag dispensers. At low tide, avoid the mud by taking a dinghy ashore at one of the public jetties. Public toilets are located opposite the shops near the main jetty. There are two public moorings and normally plenty of clear space to anchor.

Pros: Excellent facilities, public moorings often available, pet friendly. Ocean beach, excellent walks along the headland into the National Park

Cons: Take care navigating there from Broken Bay

Public Transport: Bus to Woy Woy, regular ferries from Wagstaff to Palm Beach and around Brisbane Water with Central Coast Ferries

Anchoring/Navigation: Public Moorings (2)  and room to anchor amongst the moorings in Hardys Bay. Lobster Beach is shallow but a good spot for a picnic. Buoyage regularly changes due to shifts in the channel. Recently (late 2007) another buoy was added near half tide rocks. See map below.
