A Wet Christmas

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

IMG_8646-1Well, it was wet for someone last Friday!

Jim and Adrene put on a great performance, together with Keith, as you can see in the album (centre column) or by watching the slideshow below. And yes, a few of us took a bath, even though we didn't even get close to the equator.

There were some interesting "door" prizes, good food and great company. Yes, we had a ball...

Later in the weekend, we had a bunch of boats at Smiths creek, where Jim Cormack and friends did their best to set a rafting record.

Anyway, Jim, Andrene and Keith were a class act and thanks to the others who helped make it a great night, particularly Janet Dell and Ann Asker. And of course a super special thanks to Jim Cormack for the fabulous pictures.

September Photos

September was a good month. We had a very sociable First Friday, a very successful raft-up and of course it was the opening of the sailing season. So we have a bunch of great photos for you here . And as a special bonus, click on the slide show below. The crew of Nirvana's Kitchen and Hebe Haven in the first of our online cruise training series, showing how to attach a stern line (no doubt the YouTube video of this will go viral).

Janet Dell's account of the Jerasalem Bay weekend follows:

Fishing fleet in Coffs Harbour Dame Margot has been sending regular dispatches on her way North. The first two letters can be downloaded here:

Dame Margot - The Adventure Begins.pdf and
Dame Margot - Marina Life.pdf

For Cat lovers, Richard Branson's multihull which she talks about can be seen here. The rest of Margot's photos  are below.

Oh What a Night!

IMG_7921 August First Friday had a sixties theme and the usual suspects entered into the spirit of the night.  There was some great music from our "regular band" with guest solist and a terrific quiz which stumped even those with Google phones.

A huge amount of credit goes to Janet and Ann for organising the night and together with the club putting on a great show! Well done!

Jim's pictures as always tell the story. They are in the slideshow below as well as the photo album in the centre column of this page. By the way, blame the undersigned for the captions.

That wasn't a bad Queen's birthday weekend cruise, was it? We lost count how many of us there were at the Barbeque (or on the Ambulance, for that matter). Great company and great music from the "Lana Nesnas Ensemble" The weekend's photo album (see the middle column) and slideshow are now up.

How many cruisers?

How many cruisers does it take to sink a Catamaran?

More than at Jerusalem Bay this weekend.

You can find the rest of the weekend's photos here.

We hadn't quite counted on the squall on Saturday afternoon which brought hail and lighting (that was excellent arrival  timing, Roger!).

Dangar Island is a terrific destination for a weekend cruise.

We enjoyed dinner at the Bowling Club and an excellent cup of coffee at the newly re-opened shop on Sunday morning

The photos of the weekend are in the cruising album.

Longnose Point JB We have just started another week away and took advantage of the strong NNE to sail to JB.  The wind strengthened to 25/30 in the late afternoon so we were prepared for the usual Point Perpendicular welcome - almost. We got hit by 36-41 knots with 2 reefs and 1/3rd headsail as soon as we entered the heads and it didn't let up till we got into the lee of Longnose Point. We were totally saturated and very thankful that nature created this magic little bolt-hole. I'm convinced that JB is a wind magnet. The wind is always 40% stronger down here. We will move to Darling Road for the S change later today and choose our day for a fast return North. Interestingly, when we left Pittwater on Friday, the water temp was around 23 but it dropped to ~19 somewhere past Wollongong.

Ross Scoble taking a picture of Leon WilsonWe had a some well attended events over the past month:the Christmas cruise to Port Stephens and the Australia Day weekend / Dicko Cup cruise this past weekend. Certainly the Rat Race and Kayak Kruise are fast become regular events. Is there perhaps an Audi on offer for the season's winners?

Thanks to Leon Wilson (Nirvana's Kitchen) and Sandra Ricketts (Carina), we have a couple of photo albums to share from those cruises. You'll find them by clicking on the albums in the centre column of this page or here and here

Elsewhere, Te Moana covered the Maitland Bay end of the Long Weekend and wrote about its own Chrismas Cruise to Batemans Bay.

[Update 5 Feb 2009]
Thanks to Tim Armitage for his photos of the Christmas Cruise - now added to the Christmas Cruise Album and don't forget that you can show them as a slideshow.

Maltese T-BoneCraig, who I've been planning next months cruise photography session with, just sent me this picture of the Maltese Falcon being T-boned by a 40 foot yacht during a charity race in San Francisco. Click on the picture for a link to a larger version and more.

By the way, I was a little under-prepared at last Friday's dinner to talk about our photo shoot. The idea is that we'll get a photographer (Craig) to take photographs of however many boats care to participate in November's mid month cruise. There is no obligation to purchase any of the resulting photographs. We'll display some of the results at First Friday in December. We'll try and price the photographs reasonably, although that price of course will have to reflect some of the cost involved. And just to make it clear, this is not an official club activity, but a private effort by the crew of Te Moana to get some nice sailing shots.
