2008 presents a rare opportunity for us to sail to Sydney Harbour and enjoy the Australia Day festivities on a Saturday, then to enjoy a relaxing Sunday and return to Pittwater on the Monday.
As with any cruise our itinerary will be weather dependant and may therefore be changed at the 11th hour.
Our plan is to rendezvous in the Harbour and cruise participants are requested to monitor VHF Ch77 for movements of other Club members.
The festivities within the Harbour on Saturday include the Ferrython, Tall Ships Race, Australia Day Parade, FA-18 Flyover and more. Our intention is to anchor between Athol Bay and Neutral Bay or within Farm Cove to watch these activities during the day.
During the afternoon we will move to Johnston’s Bay, which is off Pyrmont, where anchoring is permitted from 1600hrs to 2300hrs, to enjoy the “Sydney Ports Jazz on the Water” and then at around 2100hrs the fireworks will commence.
We will then have to relocate, most probably to Rozelle Bay, to re-anchor for the night.
Sunday morning will be free time, but after lunch we will re-locate again to anchor so that we can enjoy a bbq at Kirribilli. Fred & Kay Bidwell have invited us to pre-dinner drinks and a BYO bar-b-q on their front lawn overlooking the harbour.
On the Monday morning we plan for a relaxed start and return to Pittwater.
Safety of each boat is the responsibility of the owner/skipper. Short Coastal compliance is recommended. Please fill in a “One minute form” at reception before setting off. This should be in before close of business on Friday 25th.
Maurice Brynes on 'Southern Cross' is Cruise Co-ordinator (0411 867 567). Those planning to join these activities in the Harbour may like to meet at 1900hrs at the Club on Friday 25th.
This looks like being something special!
